NEW ALBANY, Ind. – A 28-year-old mother, Jessica Meade, has been sentenced to 16 years in prison after authorities saw a disturbing video of her harming her baby. The Floyd County Prosecutor’s Office announced on October 25 that Meade pleaded guilty to neglect of a dependent.
On September 24, 2023, New Albany Police responded to a report of an unconscious 1-year-old. The child was transported to a hospital, where medical personnel reported the child was pale, barely breathing, and had possibly ingested shellfish, which may have caused an allergic reaction. However, different stories were given about the events that led to the child’s condition.
Investigators later discovered a video showing Meade wrapping the child in layers of blankets and duct tape, leading to the charge of neglect. Deputy Prosecutor Kristin Perdue commented, “It is a terrible tragedy when a parent, who is supposed to protect their child, is responsible for the abuse.
